The Cerebrovascular Computational Laboratory
We serve as a site for development of novel endovascular devices in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and lesions of the spinal vasculature. Lead by Dr. Charles Prestigiacomo, the Department’s newest laboratory is a primary site for summer research assistantships and provides medical students and residents with a wide array of computational research including the use of one of the few Dextroscopes in the world. The Dextroscope is a medical imaging device that combines state of the art Virtual Reality technology with real-time volumetric and 3D rendering. The Laboratory has a wide array of research interests including:
  • We serve as a site for development of novel endovascular devices in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and lesions of the spinal vasculature.
  • Computational fluid dynamics – the supercomputer-aided study of complex blood flow patterns of diseased and normal neurovascular structures.
  • Advanced imaging of cerebrovascular disease – the refinement of CT-angiography, digital subtraction angiography and digital post-processing techniques to aid in the preoperative planning of complex neurovascular lesions.
  • Mathematical models and binary logistic regression in the prediction and decision analysis of aneurysm rupture and the treatment of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).
  • Outcome studies in subarachnoid hemorrhage.
